Spawn Labs starts shipping HD-720, your video games now ready to be slung

February 3, 2010

Hey, remember Spawn Labs? Look, we know last September was a long, long time ago, but how could you ever forget the box that essentially acts as the Slingbox for your video game consoles? The HD-720, which arrives with the ability to pass along either Xbox 360 or PlayStation 3 signals to a web-connected PC for remote playback, is now available to order for $199.95, while additional adapters can also be purchased for $39.95. Of course, you should make sure you have a pretty robust Windows-based laptop and a solid internet connection before getting your hopes up too high here, but if those are well taken care of, your portable gaming dreams are now just a credit card indention away.

[Thanks, Ryan]

Motorola Backflip spotted in the wilds of China

January 31, 2010

Motorola’s Backflip has yet to springboard itself over to AT&T, but those who call China home can hop on the bandwagon right away. Said phone — which sports a full touchscreen and a physical QWERTY thanks to the horizontal clamshell design — is now available from Moto’s Chinese portal for 4,298 Chinese yuan (in unlocked form), which translates to right around $630. While the rest of the world awaits the phone’s launch later this quarter, you can hit up Mobile.163.com for a downright beautiful gallery of in the wild shots. Go on, it’s safe. We think.

Alienware now shipping 23-inch OptX AW2310 1080p 3D monitor

January 29, 2010

Just a hunch here, but we’re guessing that Alienware’s CES stash all hit the production line at right about the same time. During the past day, we’ve seen the company’s M15x, M17x and OptX AW2310 hit the shipping stage, the latter of which is the firm’s first-ever 3D monitor. Checking in at 23-inches and boasting a full 1080p panel, this one also packs a 3 millisecond response time, 120Hz refresh rate and stereoscopic support when NVIDIA’s GeForce 3D Vision Kit is utilized. It’s up for order right now at $469, but if you follow that Logicbuy link down there, you’ll be able to snag it (for a limited time) for $449.10. Too bad that 3D kit will set you back another $200, but hey, no one said that witnessing the third dimension was cheap. Or remotely interesting. But mostly cheap.

Alienware’s Core i7-equipped M15x and M17x now available to order

January 29, 2010

Alienware didn’t drop too many details about how it was revising its M15x and M17x gaming lappies back at CES, but now both of those are finally ready to be ordered by the drooling masses. The “little” guy is available with a Core i3, Core i5 or Core i7 processor, your choice of a 512MB NVIDIA GeForce GT 240M or 1GB GeForce GTX 260M, a 1,600 x 900 or 1,920 x 1080 15.6-inch WLED panel, Bluetooth 2.1+EDR, 250GB HDD (or a 128GB / 256GB SSD for those with the coinage) and plenty of lights to go around. The big brother can be ordered with a Core i7-920XM processor, dual 1GB GeForce GTX 280M GPUs (or a pair of Radeon Mobility HD 4870s), optional Blu-ray drive and pretty much anything else you can imagine. Follow the links below if you’re eager to be first in line — the M15x gets going at $1,199 (and should ship early next month), while the M17x starts at $1,799 with a Core i7.

[Thanks, Joshua]

Toshiba’s Intel Wireless Display-supporting Satellite E205 now shipping for $900

January 19, 2010

CES is great and all, but one of the bones we choose to pick with the show is the typically long gap between the Vegas introduction and the mass market ship date. Thankfully for us, Toshiba has no interest in keeping us waiting for one of the world’s first Intel Wireless Display-equipped (or WiDi, as it were) laptops. The Satellite E205 — which comes stocked with a 2.53GHz Core i5-430M processor, 4GB of DDR3 memory, a dual-layer DVD writer, 14-inch display (1,366 x 768 resolution), 500GB hard drive and a Netgear Push2TV wireless display adapter — is now shipping from Best Buy. Of course, you’ll have to deal with integrated Intel graphics, but the inbuilt wireless display technology, multicard reader, 802.11a/b/g/n WiFi, Ethernet jack and media buttons are nice inclusions when you consider the respectable $899.99 price point. So, what’s the hesitation?

BlackBerry Curve 8530 now available on Sprint

December 18, 2009

What’s this we see here? Looks like the Curve 8530 has made it to Sprint after all. When all is said and done, she’ll cost you $50 with a new contract (after mail in rebate). Featuring a 2.5-inch display, OS 5.0, a 3.5mm headphone jack, and glorious, glorious WiFi, this is a solid, sensible device. Besides, if you wanted pizazz, you’d be looking at a Pureness right now. That, or you could always do a number on this guy with some Swarovski crystals and a hot glue gun — but please, don’t.

ASUS Eee PC 1201N debuts early at Newegg

December 17, 2009

OK, kids, here you have it: the Asus Eee PC 1201N has arrived a little earlier than expected. At least we think that’s what Newegg is trying to tell us. If you hop on over to the site RIGHT THIS MINUTE you can see that the thing is available for ordering, in black, with a limit of one per customer. It’s better than waiting until sometime next month, eh? There’s no telling if this is a snafu on the e-tailer’s part — everyone else in the western world has it available for pre-order, with a ship date of January 15 — but if you feel like taking a gamble there is only one thing left to do: hit the source link.

iriver E30 ships in China, gets handled in the wild

December 13, 2009

iriver’s E30 hasn’t shaken any trees since quietly launching in mid-August, but evidently the minuscule, no-frills player is shipping over in China. Available in 2GB, 4GB and 8GB flavors, the pocket-friendly DAP is currently selling for around $66 at the low-end, and if you’re eager to see precisely what it looks like in the wild, that source link down there has the goods you crave. Sadly, there’s still no definite word on a US release, but if you find yourself a few time zones over this holiday season, we’re certain it’d make for a great in-flight partner on the way back.

[Thanks, Gavin]

Nokia ships E72 and 5800 Navigation Edition to the US of A

December 8, 2009

We know it’s the N900 you’re jonesing for, but if you’re looking to let those “other guys” put Maemo 5 through the ringer while you continue to use an OS that’s been around the block, Nokia’s got two more for you to choose from starting today. Both the QWERTY-packin’ E72 ($407) and eager-to-route 5800 Navigation Edition have started to ship to America (according to the company, anyway), with the former listed as “coming soon” on Nokia’s webstore and as “in stock on December 10th” over at Amazon. The latter is available to order now for $299 sans contract, so good luck holding off for Google Maps Navigation to make this thing look dated.

Update: Seems this is the second time Nokia has stated that its E72 was available in the US, so we’d probably wait for at least another notification or two before pulling the trigger. Can’t ever be too careful!

Sanyo’s Eneloop Kairo hand warmers just barely beat Old Man Winter to America

December 3, 2009

Sanyo’s Eneloop line of wares have been slowly but surely crossing the Atlantic (or the Pacific, depending on the preferred route of the day) for some time now, but the all-too-enticing Eneloop Kairo has managed to stay far, far away from North America. Until now, of course. As winter sets in across much of the mainland, Sanyo has just started selling the hand warmers to frigid Yanks. The KIR-SE1S is a single-sided, egg-shaped device that ships in white and pink hues, while the double-sided KIR-SL2S (available in silver and pink) is designed to heat those who feel as if they’re living life within an icebox. The single-sided version promises up to four hours of warmth on a full charge, while the two-sided model delivers one to three hours depending on what setting you select. Check ‘em out soon for $34.99 and $44.99 in order of mention.

ASUS Eee PC 1201HA now on sale in the US

November 29, 2009

A little later than mid-November, sure, but ASUS has finally unleashed to the US masses its 12.1-inch Eee PC 1201HA. Available at Best Buy for a penny under $330, it’s got all the standard affairs: 1.33GHz Intel Atom Z520, 1GB RAM upgradeable to 2GB, 160GB HDD, WiFi, and a touted 6 hour, 38 minute battery life. The catch here is Windows XP — sorry 7 lovers, but if you’re feeling particularly adventurous, there’s always Chrome OS.

Magellan’s GPS Car Kit for iPhone and iPod Touch: $130, coming next month

November 28, 2009

We heard earlier this month that Magellan was looking to one-up TomTom by outing an iPod touch / iPhone GPS car kit of its very own, but a few critical details were missing: namely, a price and a release date. Thanks to a new product listing on Amazon (capped after the break), we at least have a clue as to when this thing will be shipping stateside and for how much. If you’ll recall, this one’s compatible with the 2nd and 3rd generation iPod touch as well as the iPhone 3G and 3GS, and aside from providing a built-in speaker, charging capabilities and a noise-canceling handsfree speakerphone, it’ll also work with any navigation or location-based app — not just Magellan’s own $79.99 RoadMate program. The unfortunate part here is that Magellan has somehow managed to produce a cradle that’s actually more expensive that the ludicrously overpriced TomTom variant, but those willing to part with $129.99 can place their order now and look for a December 11th ship date.

[Thanks, Mark]

Bliptronic 5000 synthesizer: it’s like a Tenori-On, but affordable

November 27, 2009

Yamaha’s Tenori-On may be swank, and the slightly more affordable ‘Orange‘ version may be attainable for the middle-class, but we’ve been waiting far too long for an el cheapo version. Thanks to ThinkGeek, that wait has finally ended, and all of our most intense and outlandish dreams are now a reality. The Bliptronics 5000 LED Synthesizer is, for all intents and purposes, a cheapened and less-featured version of the aforesaid Yamaha, capable of spitting out 8-bit bleeps and bloops at varying tempos based on what buttons you have toggled. And look, for $49.99, it’s tough to complain. Hop on past the break for a video demonstration, and feel free to go ahead and bust that plastic out while you’re at it — it’s not like you haven’t already taken it for quite the ride today.

Palm Pre slips to $80 on contract, makes the Pixi that much less attractive

November 19, 2009

Man, the Pixi has a tough life. For starters, it launches at a price point that simply makes no sense when you consider that the Pre could be had for the exact same price via third-party channels. Next, Palm’s second-ever webOS device falls to just $25 on contract, making it worth a glance once more. Nary two days later, Amazon has chopped the price of the Pre to just $79.99 with a 2-year contract, and to boot the $36 activation fee is being waived. We always heard sibling rivalries were the worst — guess mum wasn’t kidding around.

FLO TV Personal Television now on sale for $250, should be in cereal boxes soon

November 13, 2009

Look, we fully understand that someone, somewhere put a lot of time and effort into designing a $250 handheld that does nothing but watch pixelated mobile TV for a lofty per-month price, but seriously, there has to be better uses of one’s time. The 3.5-inch FLO TV Personal Television is on sale today at Amazon, Best Buy and RadioShack, though we suspect that the $249.99 up front price will probably keep most potential buyers at bay. Six months of service are included, but afterwards you’ll be paying at least $8.99 per month (and a rate that low requires a three-year contract) to keep the signals flowing. If we’re being honest, this thing is still more useful than Celio’s REDFLY, but that sure ain’t sayin’ much.

Chumby One now on sale

November 11, 2009

Looks like the new Chumby One just snuck its way into the Chumby store, with a listed ship date of the 25th. The One might not be as cuddly and adorable as the OG model, but it’s got a slightly faster 454MHz processor, a battery for on-the-go use and a lower $100 price tag, so we’re not complaining — especially since you also get an FM tuner, a dedicated volume knob, and a 2GB microSD card in the package. On the other hand, the Classic still comes with a free set of Chumby Charms, so this could be a tough decision for you.

Lenovo’s IdeaPad S12 finally on sale with Windows 7, NVIDIA Ion

October 28, 2009

Lenovo made us a promise back in August that the Ion-powered version of its IdeaPad S12 would finally be loosed after the introduction of Windows 7, and lo and behold, that very machine is now available to order directly from the outfit itself. The lone Ion configuration starts at $599, and as predicted, it packs a 1.6GHz N270 processor, Windows 7 Home Premium (32-bit), a 256MB Ion GPU, 2GB of DDR2 memory, a 12.1-inch display (1,280 x 800), a 250GB hard drive, Bluetooth 2.1+EDR, WiFi and a six-cell battery. So, if you’ve held on this long, are you finally jumping in now that the opportunity has presented itself?

Dane-Elec comes clean with external USB 3.0 HDDs / SSDs

October 19, 2009

It’s been almost an entire year since we heard a peep from the good lads and ladies at Dane-Elec, but those very individuals have today informed us that a few USB 3.0 drives are on the way from its labs. ‘Course, we’d like to point out that it’s being a little ambitious with that whole “world’s first” thing, but given the youth of the format, we’ll take all the competition (and excitement) we can get. The outfit’s So SuperSpeed line of external drives will soon be taking on the US market, offering consumers up to 250MBps data transfers starting on December 11th. Sizes will range from 500GB to 2TB (in both 2.5- and 3.5-inch forms), and we’re told that the SSD options (80GB and 160GB) will indeed be Intel-branded under the hood. Looking for prices? Sure you are — they’re just past the break.

MSI’s 14-inch X-Slim X400 now shipping in the US of A

October 14, 2009

It’s a little tough to believe that it took MSI this many months to bring its X-Slim X400 from the trade show floor to the digital market place, but at long last, the outfit’s 14-inch slimster is finally on sale here in the States. For those badly in need of a refresher, $799.99 gets you a 1.3GHz SU2700 processor, 2GB of RAM, a 320GB hard drive, WXGA panel, GMA 4500MHD GPU, WiFi, 4-cell battery, HDMI / VGA ports, a pair of USB sockets, a multicard reader, external DVD burner and a three-year warranty. As expected, Vista comes loaded on, though we suspect an upgrade voucher to Windows 7 will be bundled in for good measure.
